Colon Cancer Screening

The Forzani and MacPhail Colon Cancer Screening Centre uses colonscopy as it's primary tool to screen for and prevent colon cancer in patients. Approximately 18,000 procedures are performed each year. 

The Screening Centre is also heavily involved in education and clinical research in collaboration with the Universtity of Calgary Department of Medicine. 

In order to be eligible for screening, patients must:

  • be younger than 74 years old
  • have no signs or symptoms of GI issues such as rectal bleeding, or diarrhea
  • must be medically well and have no medical conditions that increase the risk of sedation or colonoscopy
  • have a doctor's referral

Referring Physicians
